Oaxaca, among the states with the greatest hospital capacity to serve COVID-19

Total availability of both observation and ventilator beds is high. Oaxaca currently has 87 percent availability in general hospitalization and 71 percent of ventilators in hospitals to attend the pandemic, was reported in the daily conference by Hugo López Gattel, undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion. Despite the fact that some of the 25 hospitals that make up the Oaxaca COVID hospital network are close to their maximum capacity, the total availability of both observation and ventilator beds is high, even in the Central Valleys, since, he said, it was recently enabled, as planned, the Oaxacan Women’s and Children’s Hospital located in San Bartolo Coyotepec, which registers an occupation of just 20 percent.

Regarding the occupation figures, the undersecretary of the Oaxaca Health Services also pointed out that the hospital network is being enabled based on the epidemiological behavior of the disease in each of the health jurisdictions. He also reported that the 25 COVID-19 hospitals that will concentrate specialty care at the highest peak of the pandemic, 10 belong to the SSO, five are from the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) and the same number from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), four from the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) and one from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
