Mexico reaches record in number of deaths and active cases of COVID-19

Mexico registered the highest number of deaths and confirmed active cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday since the health emergency began in the country. The Ministry of Health reported today that there are already 8,134 people killed by coronavirus in Mexico, which meant an increase of 501 deaths compared to Monday’s report.

In addition, the confirmed cases amounted to 74,560, of which 14,718 are active -that is, they presented symptoms of the virus in the last 14 days-, as reported by José Luis Alomía, the General Director of Epidemiology.

This latest data is the highest the country has recorded, according to government figures. Meanwhile, the accumulated suspected cases of the COVID-19 disease increased to 31,878.

Mexico City is the highest state with 20,999 cases. The State of Mexico in second place, with 12,366, and Baja California is positioned third with 4,421 cases.

Only the states of Durango and Colima have reported less than 250 confirmed cases of the disease.
